Very Young Children and Technology

“Facing the Screen Dilemma:  Young Children, Technology and Early Education.” Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood.

Okay so this article will be a little biased!  Facts that they listed:

  • 64% of babies between 1 and 2 watch tv or videos for a little of 2 hours/day
  • 2011 there 3 million downloads of Fisher Price apps YIKES!!
  • Preschoolers time on screen might between 2.2 to 4.6 hours

The article says there is no research that shows that screen time develops children.

It does say grow and develop when:  they are “read to, played with, given time to play creatively, physically active play and interactions with others.”

Preschool teachers are feeling pressure to introduce technology in Preschools!

Groups fighting this are  this website’s group and TRUCE.  Teachers Resisting Unhealthy Children’s Entertainment.  These groups are trying to look past the market hype and focus on evidence-based research.
